Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper co-operated with the Vietnam-Germany Hospital to transfer VND355,560,409 which readers sent to the newspaper's charity fund to help Vang A Thao from Yen Bai Province cover treatment for his daughter.

Thao said he was very moved to have received such support after the story was published on Dantri.

"Many people called to express their sympathy and sent money to help us save our daughter," he said. "I've also received over VND80 million sent to my bank account. Although my child has died due to the serious disease, I want to send my sincere thanks to doctors for their efforts and all kind donors for your valuable support."

Vang said that after paying the hospital fees and funeral services for his daughter, he would use the rest of the donations to develop his job and for some charity activities.

Vang A Thao, 27, and his 24-year-old wife Giang Thi Ly had just VND100,000 (USD4.20) left when their four-year-old daughter Vang Thi Pang had to be transferred from a hospital in Yen Bai to the Vietnam-Germany Hospital in Hanoi a week ago.

Despite receiving urgent surgery and intensive treatment at the hospital, the child could not survive.

According to the father, his daughter initially had a headache and he gave her some herbs he found from a forest near his home.

"I gave her herbal medicine for several days but the pain did not reduce," he said in tears. "And we had to rush her to a local hospital after she fainted. As her condition was serious, local doctors transferred her to Hanoi."

The poor couple come from the H'mong ethnic group and are both illiterate.
