Construction of new Dantri Bridge starts in Can Tho

Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper has just started construction of a new bridge project in the Mekong Delta City of Can Tho.

The new Dantri Bridge will span the Co My Canal connecting Dong Giang A and Dong Giang villages in Thoi Lai District. The bridge, which is 28 metres long and 2.50 metres wide, will be built with a total investment of VND500 million which was donated by individuals and organisations to Dantri's Charity Programme, including VND100 million by Casper Vietnam Company.

The ground breaking ceremony for the new Dantri Bridge was held on September 5 with the attendance of Chairman of Can Tho City People's Council, Pham Van Hieu, Secretary of Thoi Lai District's Party Committee, Tran Thi Vinh Nghi, Deputy Director of Can Tho City Police Department, Tran Van Duong, and other officials and local people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Council, Pham Van Hieu said that due to limited budget, Dong Binh Commune lacks bridges connecting its dense canal system.

"Many local people in Dong Giang A and Dong Giang villages have dreamed of having a bridge connecting the Co My Canal for a long time," the official said. "This is a very meaningful project for our area. I want to express my sincere thanks to Dantri Newspaper and kind donors for supporting us to carry out the project."

Attending the ceremony, Editor-in-Chief of Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper Pham Tuan Anh shared that they are always willing to come to difficult and remote areas to learn about people’s lives and implement suitable programmes to support people.

"On the occasion of the 2023-2024 new school year, we gave 1,200 insurance cards to disadvantaged students at three schools in Can Tho," he said. "The programme which was one of our recent activities to help ensure the health benefits for local children has been highly appreciated by Deputy PM Tran Hong Ha. Besides, we've carried out 75 bridge and school projects nationwide including 17 bridges in the Mekong Delta region over the past 18 years."

Anh stressed that Can Tho City is a key area in the Mekong Delta region and he expressed thanks to local authorities for supporting the newspaper's projects in the city."
