The gifts were given to students at three local schools at their opening ceremonies for the new school year with the attendance of many local officials.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha came to attend the ceremony at Doan Thi Diem Secondary School and witnessed the Dantri gifts being given to the students. Ha highly appreciated the programme.

"The programme has helped many disadvantaged children and received support from many readers and kind donors," he said.

Attending the ceremony in Binh Thuy 2 Primary School, Can Tho City People's Council Chairman Pham Van Hieu said that the programme was vital for children from low-income families.

"The gifts will help ease some of the burden on low-income families and encourage the children to study in the new school year," he said.

Speaking at the new school year opening ceremony at Doan Thi Diem Secondary School, Editor-in-Chief of Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper, Pham Tuan Anh, shared that the newspaper has always paid attention to social activities over the 18 years of establishment.

"We've been willing to come to difficult and remote areas to learn about people’s lives and implement suitable programmes to support people," Anh said. "The insurance card programme was one of our recent activities to help ensure the health benefits for local children."

This is the second consecutive year the programme was carried out in Can Tho City. Last year, Dantri and donors also presented cards to 1,000 disadvantaged students in Can Tho City and Hau Giang Province.
