Straw burning plagues drivers on national highway
Drivers on the section of National Highway 1A running through the central province of Ha Tinh have been troubled by rampant straw burning.
It is easy to see straw burning in fields alongside National Highway 1A stretching through Can Loc, Cam Xuyen and Ky Anh in Ha Tinh.
After harvesting rice, people burn the straw in the fields. The ash is used as fertiliser for rice and other crops.
The straw burning often occurs at 4 pm, causing dense smoke. Strong winds worsen the situation, posing a danger for drivers on National Highway 1A.
In many cases, the vast fields are engulfed in smoke, severely obstructing visibility.
According to experts, people should not burn straw but use bio-based products to handle excess post-harvest straw. This can help protect beneficial insects, organisms and public health.
