Two Vietnam Airlines airplanes collide at Noi Bai Airport

Two airplanes of national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines collided on a taxiway at Noi Bai International Airport this afternoon, June 27.

According to witnesses, an Airbus A321 was holding on the taxiway awaiting take-off clearance when a recently landed Boeing 787 was making its way to the assigned stand. The right wingtip of the Boeing 787 then struck the tail fin of the Airbus A321 during ground movement.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has instructed the Northern Airports Authority to send a detailed report on the incident.

An air traffic expert said that although ground movement is conducted under air traffic control instructions, pilots remain ultimately responsible for maintaining safe separation and ensuring safety.
