The accident occurred at 1 am when the bus suddenly crashed into the container truck from behind.

Hearing people screaming for help from the bus, many travellers stopped to help take the injured driver and passengers out before rescue forces arrived and rushed them to hospitals.

The bus driver, Ngo Tan Danh, 48, died from serious injuries at the hospital. Meanwhile, 15 passengers are still being treated.

Police are further investigating the cause of the accident.

Opened in May last year, the Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet Expressway spans 100 kilometres in Binh Thuan Province, connecting HCM City and Nha Trang City. The expressway allows the highest speed of 90 km per hour, but no emergency lane exists.

There have been many accidents occurring on this expressway.

On September 19, a passenger bus crashed into another bus which was stopping on the roadside, leaving two passengers dead and 10 others injured.
