Can Tho City has been experiencing rain in recent days. Along with high tides over the past two days, the water level of rivers running through the city has sharply risen.
The tidal peaks in the rivers and canals in Can Tho City are expected to be recorded on September 20-22. The highest tide at the Can Tho Station on the Hau River would reach 2.00-2.10 metres, surpassing the third warning level by 0.00-0.10 metres. The peak water level would be in the early morning (5-7 o’clock) and late afternoon (6-8 o’clock).
According to the Can Tho Meteorological Station, if the situation does not improve, many low areas in the city will be flooded.
In Vinh Long, areas adjacent to the Tien, Hau, Co Chien, and Mang Thit rivers, as well as the city’s central regions, are on high alert for potential flooding. Some roads could be submerged under 25-35cm of water, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
The peak of tides in Dong Thap has been forecast for September 20-21, threatening low areas in southern areas.
Dong Thap’s flood peak this year would be 0.1-0.4 metres higher than last year.
Meanwhile, the tidal water level at the lower stations on the Tien River is also increasing, with the highest level predicted for September 19-20.
