The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Institute of Earth Sciences said the strongest quake, measuring 4.0 in magnitude, occurred at 0052 local time at a depth of about 8.1 km. It was assigned a natural disaster risk level of zero.
Five smaller quakes followed, ranging from 2.6 to 3.8 in magnitude. Residents in the epicentral area reported feeling mild shaking.
Since 2021, hundreds of earthquakes have been recorded in the area, formerly part of Kon Plong District in Kon Tum Province. The strongest, measuring 5.0, struck on July 28, 2024.
A representative of the Mang Den People’s Committee said the commune had asked provincial authorities for additional funding to repair facilities damaged by previous quakes.
Local officials have also urged specialised agencies to assess the causes, impact and potential risks of the seismic activity to help authorities and residents take preventive measures and avoid public concern.
