Hau Giang faces continuous erosion incidents

According to the Hau Giang Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue, one of the incidents affected 47 metres along the Mai Dam Canal in Chau Thanh District. Some 330 square metres of the bank fell into the canal caused damage estimated at over VND136 million. Three nearby houses are facing potential collapse following the incident.

Previously on June 9, another similar situation occurred along a 60-metre section of the Mai Dau Canal, causing over 300 square metres of land to fall into the canal. Total losses are estimated at VND180 million.

Local authorities have sent rescue teams to deal with the cases.

Since the beginning of this year, Hau Giang has reported 22 such incidents along some 610 metres of local rivers and canals, causing over 2,950 square metres of land to slide into the water and losses of VND3 billion.
