Riverbank erosion threatens Can Tho houses

The continual erosion of the riverbank in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho has threatened many local houses.

This morning, April 3, erosion along the Tra Noc River in Tra An Ward, Binh Thuy District, damaged seven houses. Many cracks can be seen in the area, posing more erosion risks.

Local authorities have assisted people in the affected and vulnerable areas to move to safer places.

On Tuesday, a 25-metre-long strip affected by erosion was reported along Rach Chanh Canal in O Mon District’s Long Hung Ward.

While serious erosion happened at Can Tho Be Canal in Thot Not District’s Thuan Hung Ward. It caused three houses to fall into the canal and another one could collapse.

Tra Noc is one of two large rivers in Binh Thuy District and connects to the Hau River, a tributary of the Mekong. More than 120 households live along the river bank.

Tra Noc River has also suffered from the same problem.
