Authorities in Quang Tri Province and the Peace Trees Vietnam’s mobile bomb and mine clearance team successfully removed the 227-kilo MK-82 bomb to a safe area to await detonation on November 7.
The bomb was found on November 4 at a road project in Dakrong District and workers informed local authorities. It is 1.54 metres long and has a diameter of 274mm.
Quang Tri Province was a major battleground during the American War between 1968-1972. Around 391,000 hectares of land, accounting for 83.3 percent of the province’s total area, remains infested by mines and other explosives from the war.
Early this year, a similar bomb was also found in a family garden in the province's Huong Hoa District. In November last year, two big bombs weighing around 567 kilos were also detected in Huong Hoa District.
