A representative of the Northern Airports Authority told the VietNamNet Newspaper on Thursday afternoon that they detected and isolated two Chinese nationals with high fever the same day.

Both were coming from flight QH1232 from Chu Lai Airport to Noi Bai.

Vice director of the Hanoi International Health Quarantine Centre, Nguyen Tien Hoa said that the two were sent to the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases.

On Thursday morning, a woman and her small son were also isolated at Cat Bi International Airport in Hai Phong City as they were showing signs of the coronavirus infection.

According to a report released by the Hai Phong Department of Health, Vu Thi Thanh Tuyen, 21, and her 17-month-old son Vuong Trung Bao were travelling on a Vietjet flight VJ286 from Ho Chi Minh City to Hai Phong. They had recently returned from China and had travelled through the Mong Cai Border Gate to Nanning by car before then heading from to Shandong by plane where they stayed at accommodation alongside Chinese nationals.

After extending their visas, Tuyen and her son continued their journey, flying from Shandong to Guangzhou and then finally from Guangzhou to Ho Chi Minh City on January 18.

The first symptoms of the virus were present on the evening of January 29 when Tuyen and her son were waiting to board flight VJ 286 to Hai Phong. She displayed signs of a mild fever, an itchy throat, and shortness of breath, while her son was also suffering from a mild fever, tiredness, and purple lips.

The Hai Phong International Health Quarantine Centre sent doctors to conduct medical examinations and epidemiological treatment for both cases.

Currently, Tuyen and her son remain in a stable condition while the Hai Phong Preventive Medicine Centre has sent a test sample to the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology where they will have preliminary results regarding seven known strains of the coronavirus within the next 24 hours.

A new coronavirus strain will be diagnosed and tested within three days of receiving the negative result.

The International Health Quarantine Centre has also requested that Vietjet Air provide a list of people who were sat on the same row and close to the two suspected cases.

By January 30, three Vietnamese people were confirmed to have contracted Coronavirus, according to Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen.

Earlier, two Chinese men were also tested positive for the deadly virus at Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City. However, one of them have tested negative for the virus following treatment, while the other has seen improvement and is waiting for the test result.
