The Vietnam Football Federation has finally managed to persuade Nguyen Huu Thang, former national team captain and previous coach of two-time V-League champions Song Lam Nghe An, to take the position of Vietnam coach following the recent sacking of Toshiya Miura.
The VFF confirmed they were finalising the contract details.

Coach Nguyen Huu Thang
After sacking Miura, the VFF considered Nguyen Huu Thang and SHB Danang FC coach Le Huynh Duc. But Duc spurned the offer.
Huu Thang was courted to act as coach for Thanh Hoa and B.Binh Duong but he turned down the offers.
The VFF has hired 11 local coaches for the national team, but, most of them have failed to inspire the national team to any outstanding achievements.
The new coach will lead the team to compete at two World Cup 2018 qualifying matches against Taiwan on March 24 and Iraq on March 29.
Speaking at a recent press conference, VFF deputy president Doan Nguyen Duc said that the national team was set a goal to reach the final of the ASEAN Football Cup later this year and are ambitiously targeting gold at the 2017 SEA Games.
