Saxophonist Tran Manh Tuan has established the Saigon Big Band.
The group includes 20 jazz musicians based in HCM City. Big jazz bands were particularly popular in the 1930s and 40s before being overtaken by more creative and individually expressive modern jazz groups.
The Saigon Big Band will premiere at the Tran Manh Tuan & Saigon Big Band – A New Year Celebration Concert at 8 pm on January 17 at Saigon Opera House. Following that, the band will organise free performances weekly in front of Saigon Opera House.
