Le Thi Thuy Tien
When Le Thi Thuy Tien's hair fell out, the family borrowed money to bring her to Hanoi's Pediatric Hospital. She was diagnosed with anemia and given medicine, but the hair did not grow back. Her mother left to work in China and has not returned.
"She called in 2013 and said that she's working in China, and sent us VND1m. We haven't heard from her since," said Pham Thi Suy, Tien's grandmother.
Tien loses hair to illness
Suy, who is blind in one eye, looks after Tien, whose father is also sick and his health is too weak to work fulltime as a carpenter, though he tries and can earn VND20,000 a day. The small income cannot repay the family's debts or Tien's hospital bills.
