Four low-income Hanoi families receive support to build new homes

Four low-income families in Hanoi have received newly-built homes funded by Dantri/Dtinews reader donations, with total support exceeding VND 464 million, as part of a community housing programme.

Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper, working with local authorities in Hanoi, held an inauguration ceremony on January 30 for four new houses built for disadvantaged households, with total funding of more than VND 464 million (USD 18,196).

Speaking at the event, Pham Dinh Manh, a representative of Dantri/Dtinews, said he was pleased to see reader donations used effectively to build solid and decent homes for families in need.

He expressed gratitude to benefactors, Dantri readers and local authorities for their continued support, adding that the recipient families were expected to stabilise their lives and gradually improve their living conditions.

Ngo Thi Dung, one of the four beneficiaries, said she was deeply moved by the support. Her family received more than VND 128 million (USD 5,020) from Dantri readers, along with an additional VND 20 million (USD 784) from the Thien Tam Fund. The family has built a new 110-square-metre house with total costs exceeding VND 450 million (USD 17,647).

On the occasion, Dantri/Dtinews also presented housewarming gifts to the four families on behalf of its readers, with each family receiving VND 1 million (USD 39) in cash.

Nguyen Quoc Huy, head of the Vat Lai Commune Fatherland Front Committee, and Dang Tien Huu, head of the commune Party Inspection Committee, presented Ngo Thi Dung’s family with a housewarming gift worth VND 5 million (USD 196).

During the ceremony, Dantri also awarded 20 scholarships to disadvantaged students from the communes of Vat Lai, Co Do and Ba Vi. Each scholarship was worth VND 500,000 (USD 20).

Responding to the government’s campaign to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing, Dantri/Dtinews has set a target of building 200 charity homes nationwide during 2024 and 2025. Since April 2024, the newspaper has started construction on 253 such homes, with 217 already completed and handed over.
