Construction of a bridge jointly funded by DtiNews and some other donors began in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang on November 12.
This is the 6th bridge funded by DtiNews in the Mekong Delta region and the 10th in Vietnam.
Many local residents, including students, attended the ground-breaking ceremony
The VND570 million (USD27,142) bridge has been jointly funded by DtiNews, the Vietnam Study Promotion Fund and Garment 10 Corporation.
Located in Chau Thanh District’s Ho Dac Kien Commune, it will replace a seriously deteriorated old bridge. Work on the bridge is slated for completed within 2 months.
Tran Quoc Thang, Chairman of Chau Thanh District People’s Committee expressed his thanks to the donors, adding that local authorities will oversee the construction schedule.

Ly Thi Phung, a local resident, said “I always feel nervous when travelling on the old bridge. I have many times seen people fall off it.”
“For many years, we’ve had to cross an old, dangerous bridge. When informed about the new bridge, we counted down the days to the ground-breaking ceremony. We’re very happy with the new bridge,” a local student Nguyen Thi Ngoc Han said.
DtiNews Editor-in-chief Pham Huy Hoan also granted 30 scholarships worth VND1 million (USD47.6) to local students.
