Dantri/DTiNews readers help support struggling family in Haiphong

More than VND 630 million (USD 24,000) has been donated by Dantri/Dantri readers and benefactors to support a family in Haiphong City whose father and son are both battling end-stage kidney disease.

Dantri/Dtinews recently presented a symbolic cheque worth VND 211.3 million to the family of Nguyen Thi Huyen in Haiphong City, funds donated by readers to help cover treatment costs for her husband and son.

The amount was transferred directly to the family's account, adding to more than VND 420 million contributed by relatives, local authorities and benefactors, including VND 20 million from the Thien Tam Foundation.

Total support received by the family has now exceeded VND 630 million.

The family's plight was previously highlighted in a Dantri article about Huyen's husband and son, both of whom suffer from end-stage kidney disease.

Her husband, Vu Van Quang, was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2020 and has since required dialysis three times a week to survive.

The family's hardship deepened in May 2025 when their son, Vu Thanh Long, then a final-year automation engineering student at Sao Do University, was also diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease.

Instead of completing his graduation project, Long now undergoes peritoneal dialysis four times a day.

Huyen said the support from readers and donors had eased the family's financial burden and given them renewed hope.

The family plans to take Long to Hanoi next month for specialised tests to assess the possibility of a kidney transplant from his mother. They also intend to register with the National Organ Transplant Coordination Centre to explore other transplant opportunities.
