Representatives of local authorities and Dantri/DTiNews recently presented a symbolic cheque worth VND 144.6 million to Bui Thi Hue, a resident of Dai Dong Commune in Phu Tho Province.
The funds had previously been transferred directly to Hue's bank account to help cover living expenses, medical treatment and her children's education.
Hue's family was featured in a Dantri/DTiNews article published in April about the hardships faced by her daughter, Bui Thi Luu, whose studies were at risk after her father's death.
After years of battling liver cancer, Hue's husband died, leaving behind a wife suffering from kidney disease and two children. Her younger son has epilepsy and requires ongoing treatment.
The family has also been living in a severely deteriorated house that leaks heavily during rain.
Hue said the donations would help cover medical expenses, repair the family's home and support small-scale livestock farming to create a more stable source of income.
Luu, a Year 12 student and volleyball enthusiast, said the support had strengthened her determination to continue studying despite the family's difficulties.
According to local authorities, the support had not only eased the family's financial burden but also given the student greater confidence to pursue her education.
