Woman confirmed as Covid-19 patient after returning from France

A Vietnamese woman who recently returned from France has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,505, the Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday evening.

According to the ministry's report, the 26-year-old woman arrived at Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat International Airport on December 16, 2020.

She was sent to a quarantine area in Binh Duong Province upon arrival and tested postive for SARS-CoV-2 in her third testing on January 5.

The patient is now being treated at the Binh Duong Provincial General Hospital.


Earlier, eight other people who boarded the same flight with her were also infected with SARS-CoV-2 and are being treated in Binh Duong Province.

With this new infection case, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 811.

As of 6 pm on January 6, a total of 1,353 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, over 19,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
