The whale was spotted near Bai Bac Cape in the Eo Gio area of Quy Nhon Dong Ward by local resident Nguyen Le Hoang Loi while he and friends were fishing offshore early in the morning.
Video footage showed the whale repeatedly surfacing and diving while feeding close to shore, as dozens of seabirds circled above and swooped into the water to catch fish.
“It stayed near the shore for quite a long time, so I was able to film it on my phone,” Loi said.
The clip quickly attracted thousands of views and comments on Facebook, with many users describing the scene as a positive sign of healthy marine conditions and abundant fish stocks in the area.
Whales have been increasingly spotted near the coast in central Vietnam in recent years, attracting attention from both residents and tourists.
