Vung Tau to build international cruise port

The Ministry of Construction has approved a detailed plan for an international passenger port in Vung Tau Ward in HCM City with two cruise berths stretching 840 metres.

Under the master plan for the Ba Ria-Vung Tau seaport area for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the Vung Tau International Cruise Port will be built to modern standards and accommodate vessels of up to 225,000 GT.

The plan calls for one terminal with two berths totalling 840 metres, excluding additional piers. Once complete, the port will handle the world’s largest cruise ships and serve an estimated 1.39-1.5 million passengers a year.

The project is expected to become the largest cruise port in southern Vietnam, supporting marine tourism and boosting services and logistics. It is near the Bai Truoc cable car terminal complex in Vung Tau. The development will include service facilities, commercial and entertainment space and areas to receive domestic and foreign visitors.

Consultants proposed 11 design options with straight or curved access bridges highlighting the coastal landscape. Estimated costs range from VND 1.33 trillion (approximately USD 50.7 million), to more than VND 8 trillion (approximately USD 304 million), depending on scale and materials.
