Ho Chi Minh City recorded fewer road traffic accidents, fatalities and injuries during the first six months of 2026, with authorities reporting improvements across all three key safety indicators.

According to a report released on July 22 by the city's Traffic Police Division, Ho Chi Minh City recorded 811 traffic accidents in the first half of the year, resulting in 418 deaths and 426 injuries.
Compared with the same period last year, the number of accidents fell by 185, or 19 per cent, while fatalities declined by 73, or 15 per cent. The number of injured victims dropped by 150, representing a 26 per cent decrease.
The report said traffic order and road safety across the city were generally maintained during the period, with no serious or prolonged traffic congestion reported.
On the roads, traffic police detected and dealt with more than 685,000 violations of Vietnam's Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety.
Waterway police also stepped up enforcement, identifying and handling more than 6,000 violations of inland waterway traffic safety regulations.
Addressing the review conference, Colonel Nguyen Dinh Duong praised the Traffic Police Division for its performance in improving road safety during the first half of the year, while also highlighting remaining shortcomings that require further attention and corrective measures.
