Nguyen Van Ky receives the donation

Nguyen Thi Phuc's husband left when she was pregnant and only thanks to the neighbours that they were able to survive until now. Phuc did odd jobs to support the family. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.

Phuc refused to sell the house to get treatment money since it means there will not be anything left for her son when she dies. Phuc's son, Nguyen Van Ky, is also working part-time to help his mother.

Phuc's health turned for the worst last month. She couldn't walk or eat normally so the neighbours brought her to HCM City Hospital of Haematology and Blood Transfusion. Dantri representatives and local authorities of Duc Minh Ward visited and transferred VND70,180,000 donation to Ky.

Hoang Thi Thanh, Phuc's neighbour, said many encouragements and VND100m (USD4,300) had come to Phuc's family after their story was published.

Bui Dinh Hien, chairman of Duc Minh Commune, thanked the donors and said that they would take care of Ky while Phuc was in hospital.
