Vietnam pledges to guarantee intellectual property rights by law, said State President Nguyen Minh Triet on Wednesday at his meeting with Director General of WIPO Francis Gurry in Hanoi.
The Vietnamese Head of State expressed his hope that the WIPO would further extend its assistance to and cooperation with Vietnam so that the country can effectively catch up with international progress of intellectual property rights.
State President Triet frankly blamed the country’s weak protection of intellectual property rights to legal enforcement capacity, personnel and equipment quality.
He was convinced that Mr. Francis Gurry’s visit would promote the advancement of Vietnam’s intellectual property field.
Vietnam encourages and creates favorable conditions for intellectuals to make valuable contributions to the national development, said State President Triet, emphasizing that the national growth strategy is driven by increasing intellectual elements.
The cooperation in terms of intellectual property rights between Vietnam and WIPO is typical, noted Mr. Francis Gurry, saying that Vietnam fully recognizes the role of intellectual property rights in economic development and has gained great achievements during the past over 20 years of renovation.
Vietnam has strong determination, well-prepared legal system and good infrastructure for the development of this sector, said the WIPO chief.
Economic development and luxuriant inflow of foreign investment will lead Vietnam to an intellectual property boom, commented Mr. Francis Gurry.
