Violations against natural disaster control regulations will be fined

From March 10, such violations will be fined up to VND 40 million.

From March 10, 2010, any violation against regulations on natural disaster control in Vietnam shall be fined up to VND 40 million, according to a new announcement from the Vietnamese government.

The Government has just adopted a decree which will impose warnings and/or penalties for infringements against rules aimed a preventing and controlling flood and storms. Violations include embezzlement, corruption, misuse of funds and damaging anti-disaster projects.

For the first time, a decree on administrative
penalties in disaster prevention is issued and comes into effect on March 10, 2010

Under the decree, individuals or organizations breaking the rules can be fined up to VND 40 million. Additional supplemental forms of punishment can be applied, including the revocation of business licenses and confiscation of valuables.

Individuals or organizations can be penalised VND 20-40 million for damaging projects.

Spreading rumours of storms or floods which undermine social stability shall be punished VND 10-20 million.

Corrupton and misuse of relief money and goods shall suffer a penalty of VND 15 million.
