The station covers 16 hectares but it only served around 170 trips per day with a total of 2,200 passengers in October this year, equal to just 35 percent of its designed capacity.

The station’s ticket counters are large and modern but deserted.

From the basement, people can come to the second, third and fourth floors by two escalators.

Food and drink services at the station have also failed to attract customers.

According to many passengers, the station is quite far from the city centre.

Nguyen Thi Hong, 62, from Binh Thanh District, said she and her husband often travel to Mien Dong Bus Station by bus and then take a coach to Nha Trang.

The parking area is scientifically designed, but the vehicle number remains modest.
Meanwhile, the area outside the station has seen the rampant operation of unlicensed coaches.
Many infrastructure projects around the station, including overpasses, have not yet been put into use, which is among the factors discouraging the use of station services.
A metro station on the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien line opposite the bus station is also almost entirely finished.
