Authorities in Tuyen Quang Province held a memorial service and burial ceremony on July 26 for the remains of 34 fallen soldiers at Vi Xuyen National Martyrs' Cemetery, marking the 79th anniversary of Vietnam's War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27.

Delivering the eulogy, Phan Huy Ngoc, chairman of the People's Committee of Tuyen Quang Province, recalled the fierce fighting to defend Vietnam's northern border, particularly on the Vi Xuyen-Ha Tuyen front, where thousands of officers and soldiers fought to protect every position and every part of the country's territory.
Ngoc said search teams had recovered the remains of 34 soldiers, including one believed to have been killed during the war against French colonial forces.

Many of the remains recovered during the latest search have not yet been fully identified. Ngoc said the province would continue efforts to locate, recover and repatriate the remains of soldiers still missing on former battlefields so they could be returned to their families and laid to rest.
Following the memorial service, the coffins, draped in Vietnam's national flag, were carried in a military procession before being buried at Vi Xuyen National Martyrs' Cemetery.

The ceremony formed part of nationwide commemorations marking the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day and coincided with ongoing efforts to recover and identify the remains of Vietnam's fallen soldiers.
