Pham Thi Tru recognised as world's oldest living woman by WRA
The Hong Kong-based World Records Association (WRA) conferred the title on April 20.
She replaces Japan's Misao Okawa, who died on April 1, aged 117. Okawa had been recognised by the Guinness Book of Records, a popular reference book published annually and listing world records in human achievement and the natural world.
Howevever, Tru held the title of being the oldest living woman by the Vietnam Records Book and the Asia Records Book.
The WRA accepted as evidence Tru's ID card, citing her date of birth as 4 May 1893. Tru had 11 children, but only two are still living, both now in their 80s. She lives in Da Phuoc Commune, HCM City.
Tru is said to be fond of cakes and milk, and still has most of her teeth.

Nguyen Thi De, Tru's daughter, said her mother's family were farmers and living off the land may have contributed to her relaxed and optimistic outlook, compassion and generosity, and regular exercise contributed to her good health. She has rarely been sick and has never been to a hospital.
