Vietnamese NGOs meet in Hanoi

Vietnamese non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have made great contributions to the development of the community.

Vietnamese non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have made great contributions to the development of the community.

Participants emphasized this at an annual conference, held by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations on September 20, 2010.

They also proposed building new laws on associations and NGOs to create better conditions for their operation.

Speaking at the conference, Nguyen Van Tien, deputy head of the National Assembly Committee for Social Affairs, said most NGOs are working very hard.

However, they need to improve their operation to take advantage of corporate assistance, said Tien.

It is estimated that in 2009, more than 4,000 NGOs in Vietnam, both foreign and domestic, donated over US$271 million to healthcare, education and training, socio-economic development, and natural resources. They also provided consultancy to laws projects on HIV/AIDS prevention and domestic violence prevention.
