Vietnam to join Tiger Summit in Russia next month

PM Dung has assigned a leader of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to partake in the Tiger Summit, slated for November 21-24.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has assigned a leader of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) to partake in the Tiger Summit, slated for November 21-24 in St. Petersburg, Russia.

At the Tiger Summit, methods to rescue tiger’s population will include focusing on well-defined tiger conservation landscapes.

Within these areas, scientists recommend a combination of law enforcement, wildlife management and scientific monitoring.

The Vietnamese Government chief lately requested the MoNRE to early build a national program on tiger preservation, regarding this one of Vietnam’s activities towards the upcoming Tiger Summit.

Vietnam also strongly stands for the Global Tiger Initiative (GTI) which was initiated by World Bank President Robert B. Zoellik, the Smithsonian Institution and the Global Environment Fund (GEF) to preserve the endangered species of tiger.

According to the World Wild Fund (WWF), Vietnam only has around 30 wild tigers in some national parks and reserves.
