Joining other nations all over the world, at 8.30 PM on March 27, Vietnam will participate in the globe's largest environmental campaign by turning off lights for one hour.

The announcement was made today at a press briefing in Hanoi by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

The Earth Hour 2010 is supposed to draw the bigger participation of over 20 cities in Vietnam, said Nguyen Khac Hieu, Deputy General Director of the MONRE’s Hydrometeorology and Climate Change Department.

Ho Chi Minh City will host major events where famous artists and the Goodwill Ambassadors for Earth Hour will attend.

As the golden sponsor of the event in Việt Nam, the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) wants to encourage people to follow the Government-initiated program on energy safety.

It was reported that thanks to the Earth Hour 2009, Vietnam saved 140,000kWh of electric power.
