Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has approved a plan to build a national satellite centre in Hanoi.
The centre, to be located at Hoa Lac high-tech Park, will be responsible for implementing a project to build Vietnam Aerospace Centre.
The national satellite centre will fall under the management of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST).
Nhan assigned VAST’s Chairman to outline the functions, organisation and operation of the centre.
The national satellite centre is considered an important step in the implementation of a project to construct a Vietnam Aerospace Centre that will research and produce small satellites for weather forecasting, surveillance, TV and radio broadcasting and search and rescue.
The project is expected to start by the end of 2011.
