Speaking at a conference on October 6, Huynh Thi Anh Thao, deputy director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the province had approved a policy supporting charter flights carrying international tourists to Phu Cat Airport in 2026-27.
Under the resolution, each charter flight arriving at Phu Cat Airport will receive VND 200 million (about USD 7,700).
International tour operators based in Gia Lai that directly or jointly organise charter flights bringing international tourists to the province will be eligible for the subsidy.
To qualify, operators must have specific tour programmes, accommodation contracts with local establishments and use tourism services in the province, including transport, food and drink, sightseeing and shopping.
They must also obtain approval from the competent authorities for their flight plans and maintain a minimum commercial-seat occupancy rate of 50 per cent during the first six months, rising to at least 70 per cent from the seventh month onwards.
Tour operators bringing international visitors to Gia Lai on these flights will also receive a 50 per cent discount on entrance fees or ticket prices at the Explora Science and Innovation Centre, Doi Towers, Banh It Tower, Quang Trung Museum and Bien Ho scenic area.
The province will also support the promotion of operators' tourism products through mass media, government channels and investment, trade and tourism promotion programmes, as well as diplomatic activities.
Thao said the province would organise several major cultural and tourism events towards the end of the year, including the Central Highlands Gong Festival, the Wild Sunflower-Chu Dang Ya Volcano Week and activities marking the closing of National Tourism Year 2026.

Tourism officials said the period offered a favourable opportunity for Gia Lai to attract more international visitors, particularly through charter flights to Phu Cat Airport, helping extend the tourism season and increase visitor numbers.
