Hanoi police seize nearly 20 tonnes of counterfeit food and drinks

Hanoi police have launched a criminal case after discovering nearly 20 tonnes of allegedly counterfeit confectionery and drinks at five sites in An Khanh Commune.

Hanoi police said on October 6 that they had prosecuted Nguyen Quang Dat, 34, a resident of An Khanh Commune, Hanoi, for allegedly producing and trading counterfeit food products.

The investigation had uncovered several locations producing and selling cakes, sweets and drinks suspected of violating regulations on product origin and provenance.

On September 18, authorities simultaneously inspected five sites in An Khanh Commune owned by Dat. They seized 2,175 cartons of finished products weighing about 19.73 tonnes, along with raw materials, semi-finished products, machinery, packaging, documents and electronic data linked to the case.

Notably, the products were packaged in containers bearing barcodes indicating they originated in countries including South Korea, Japan, Thailand and Indonesia.
