The Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued Circular No. 61/2026 introducing national technical regulations for EV chargers and charging stations.
The regulations apply to manufacturers, assemblers, importers and distributors of chargers, as well as investors, designers, contractors and operators of charging stations.
Charging stations must be technically capable of serving different electric road vehicles compatible with their connectors, charging modes and technical configurations.
Compatibility will be determined by connector type, charging mode, voltage and current ranges, communication functions and safety interlocks.
The regulations cover AC, DC and combined AC/DC chargers, which must meet requirements for protection against electric shock, overloads and short circuits, as well as electromagnetic compatibility, communications, labelling and operating instructions.
Charging stations must also meet requirements on electrical and fire safety, layout, safety distances, power supply, electricity metering, load management and data monitoring.
Chargers must be positioned for convenient use without obstructing walkways, emergency exits or internal traffic. Charging areas must display identification signs, electrical safety warnings and operating instructions.
Monitoring systems must record operating status, faults and electrical parameters, while operational, fault, metering, payment and user-feedback data must be securely stored and retrievable.
A station's total power consumption must not exceed the capacity of its grid connection and internal distribution system.
Existing chargers and stations may continue operating but must undergo safety reviews within six months and address deficiencies within 24 months.
Manufacturers, importers, distributors, investors, contractors, operators and electricity suppliers will also have responsibilities for inspections, maintenance, safe operation and incident response.
