Nearly USD 400m in foreign capital flows into Hanoi property

Hanoi's real estate sector attracted about USD 394 million in foreign direct investment in the first nine months of 2026, nearly 10 per cent of the city's total.

Hanoi attracted USD 4.067 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first nine months of 2026, up 5.9 per cent from the same period last year, according to the Hanoi Statistics Office.

The city granted licences to 500 new projects with combined registered capital of USD 676 million. Another 113 projects increased their investment, adding USD 691 million in registered capital.

Capital contributions and share purchases accounted for the largest share of foreign investment. During the nine-month period, 281 foreign investors made capital contributions or purchased shares worth a combined USD 2.7 billion, equivalent to about 66 per cent of total FDI attracted during the period.

By sector, professional, scientific and technical activities led in foreign investment, attracting about USD 2.243 billion, or 55.2 per cent of Hanoi's total FDI. The statistics office said the figure was driven mainly by large-scale capital contributions and share purchases.

Real estate ranked second, attracting about USD 394 million, equivalent to 9.69 per cent of the city's total FDI in the first nine months.

Information and communications followed with USD 352.1 million, accounting for 8.66 per cent, while wholesale and retail trade attracted USD 247.1 million, or 6.08 per cent.

Manufacturing attracted USD 232.2 million in FDI, equivalent to 5.7 per cent, while water supply and waste treatment received USD 220.2 million, or 5.41 per cent.

Accommodation and food services and construction attracted USD 61.2 million and USD 55.5 million respectively. Other sectors, including administrative and support services, transport and storage, education and training, finance and banking, healthcare and agriculture, recorded projects but attracted relatively small amounts of capital.

In September alone, Hanoi attracted USD 329.9 million in FDI. The city licensed 50 new projects worth a combined USD 103.9 million, while 16 projects received additional investment of USD 198.4 million. Foreign investors also made 27 capital contributions or share purchases worth USD 27.6 million.

Alongside foreign investment, the Hanoi Statistics Office reported growth in the city's real estate business during the nine-month period.

Value added in the real estate sector was estimated to have increased 3.28 per cent year on year, contributing 0.11 percentage points to Hanoi's GRDP growth.

The services sector grew 9.14 per cent over the same period, contributing 6.15 percentage points to GRDP growth. Several service industries recorded growth of more than 10 per cent, including transport and storage, finance, banking and insurance, arts and entertainment, and wholesale and retail trade.
