Vietnam has announced five more Covid-19-related deaths, raising the country’s death tally to 110 to date.
According to the Ministry of Health, the cases were all women aged between 43 and 85, consisting of two in HCM City and three in Dong Thap Province.
The fatalities in HCM City are a 50-year-old woman in Hoc Mon District without any underlying medical conditions and an 85-year-old woman in District 1 who ever suffered from a stroke. Both tested positive for Covid-19 on June 22 and were treated at Trung Vuong Hospital but failed to respond to intensive treatments.
One died on July 3 and the other died on July 4 for severe respiratory failure due to Covid-19 and septic shock.
The cases in Dong Thap are a 54-year-old woman in Chau Thanh District, a 43-year-old woman in Lap Vo District and another aged 59 in Chau Thanh District. All of them faced underlying diseases, including hypertension, heart failure and diabetes.
They tested positive for the virus on July 1-6. Two of them were treated at Sa Dec General Hospital but responded poorly to the treatment and died on July 3 and 4. Meanwhile, another tested positive on July 6. While waiting to be sent to a medical facility for treatment, the patient suddenly suffered from cardiac arrest and then died. According to the autopsy, she faced respiratory failure due to the complication of Covid-19. She had earlier struggled with chronic heart failure and diabetes.
Since April 27 when the fourth Covid-19 wave started ravaging Vietnam, the nation has confirmed 75 deaths.
