The Ministry of Construction of Vietnam on May 15 held a roadshow introducing the consultancy package for preparing the project’s feasibility study report.

The ministry is encouraging joint ventures between international and domestic consultants in order to combine global expertise with local knowledge of Vietnam’s conditions and regulatory environment.
The North-South high-speed railway will stretch approximately 1,541km from Ngoc Hoi Station in Hanoi to Thu Thiem Station in HCM City, passing through 15 centrally-governed provinces and cities.
The line will feature a newly built double-track railway with a standard gauge of 1,435mm and a designed operating speed of 350km/h.
Preliminary investment for the project is estimated at USD 67.34 billion.
Thang Long Project Management Board has been appointed as the investor responsible for preparing the feasibility study report.
Under the approved timeline, preparation, appraisal and approval of the feasibility study, along with construction commencement, are scheduled to take place between the fourth quarter of 2026 and the fourth quarter of 2028.
Land clearance work will be separated into independent projects managed by provincial and municipal authorities along the railway route, with completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2028.
To meet the planned construction schedule, authorities aim to complete the consultant selection process and FEED design work in June, while the interim feasibility study report is expected to be finalised by June 2027.
