Vietnam reports rising number of Covid-19 infections

Vietnam announced 12,796 more Covid-19 infections on Sunday and 8,813 patients recovered from the disease the same day, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, 12,752 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 39 localities such as Binh Duong (5,414), HCM City (4,957), Long An (533), Dong Nai (377), Tay Ninh (234), Tien Giang (155), Hanoi (133), Danang (106), An Giang (103), Dong Thap (93), and Khanh Hoa (92). 44 other patients were imported cases from other countries.

The infection number showed an increase of 655 infections compared to yesterday's figure. There were 5,712 infections found in the community.


As of Sunday evening, 430,939 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April, with some southern localities recording high infections such as HCM City (209,921 cases), Binh Duong (104,208), Dong Nai (22,641), and Long An (20,933). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 435,265. The country now stands 59th among 222 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On August 29, an additional 8,813 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 219,802.

Also on Sunday evening, a further 344 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 10,749. The deaths were reported in HCM City (256), Binh Duong (31), Tien Giang (18), Long An (13), Dong Nai (5), Kien Giang (4), Vinh Long (4), Danang (3), Dong Thap (3), Tay Ninh (3), Khanh Hoa (1), Ninh Thuan (1), Thua Thien Hue (1), and Vinh Phuc (1).

The country has so far conducted over 19.43 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 2.43 million people having received two doses.
