Vietnam has continued to report rising number of Covid-19 infections with additional 26,032 cases confirmed on Thursday, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 26,023 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,887), Nghe An (1,749), Hai Phong (1,366), Hai Duong (1,329), and Nam Dinh (1,189). There were nine imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed an increase of 2,070 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 8,264 infections found in the community.
As of Thursday evening, 2,423,553 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (515,109), Binh Duong (293,068), Hanoi (159,735), Dong Nai (100,002), and Tay Ninh (88,659). Vietnam has so far confirmed 192 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,430,683. The country now stands 34th among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 10, an additional 9,992 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,206,594.
On Thursday evening, a further 74 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 38,688. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (16), HCM City (4), Danang (4), Hai Duong (4), Quang Nam (4), and Thua Thien Hue (4)
Vietnam on February 9 administered 416,336 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 184.12 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, including over 74.48 million people having received two doses and over 30.48 million people having received three doses.
