Vietnam reports additional 265,163 more Covid-19 infections on Wednesday

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Wednesday reported an additional 265,163 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 5,04 million.

According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (31,365), Nghe An (10,296), Bac Ninh (9,068), Phu Tho (5,594), and Son La (4,924). Three provinces of Nghe An, Bac Giang and Quang Ninh today also added 45,896, 30,353, and 24,318 new infections respectively to the national tally.

As of Wednesday evening, 5,034,498 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country last April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (557,003), Hanoi (491,366), Binh Duong (322,628), Bac Ninh (203,588), and Quang Ninh (158,445).

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 5,042,036. The country now stands 21st among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On March 9, an additional 65,872 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,855,214.

On Wednesday evening, a further 109 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 41,086. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Thai Nguyen (10), Dong Nai (8), Hanoi (8 ), Nam Dinh (7), Ha Nam (6), Bac Ninh (5), Nghe An (5), and Phu Tho (5).

Vietnam on March 8 administered 379,421 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 198.64 million.
