According to the ministry's report, 60,338 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 62 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (7,419), Bac Giang (2,998), Hai Duong (2,944), Hoa Binh (2,595), and Bac Ninh (2,505). There were 17 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The same day, Vinh Phuc Province added 21,771 new Covid-19 infections to the national tally.
The new infections showed an increase of 4,467 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 42,145 infections found in the community.
As of Wednesday evening, 2,965,092 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (523,593), Binh Duong (294,644), Hanoi (218,100), Dong Nai (100,666), and Tay Ninh (89,370). Vietnam has so far confirmed 205 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,972,378. The country now stands 32nd among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On February 23, an additional 15,641 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,320,722.
On Wednesday evening, a further 91 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 39,719. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (11), Binh Dinh (7), Hai Duong (6), Quang Nam (6), Danang (4), Hoa Binh (4), and Kien Giang (4).
Vietnam on February 22 administered 408,611 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 192.40 million.
