Vietnam raises petrol prices for sixth straight adjustment

Vietnam has raised petrol prices for the sixth consecutive adjustment, while diesel prices fell after three previous increases.

Vietnam's ministries of Industry and Trade and Finance on October 8 announced new retail fuel prices, effective from 3 pm the same day.

The price of E5 RON 92 petrol rose by VND 1,140 (USD 0.044) a litre to VND 27,700 (USD 1.07), while E10 RON 95 increased by VND 1,070 to VND 28,250 (USD 1.09) a litre.

Diesel prices fell by VND 590 to VND 29,120 (USD 1.12) a litre, while mazut rose by VND 700 to VND 21,090 (USD 0.81) a kilo.

The authorities also decided to continue drawing VND 200 (USD 0.008) from the price stabilisation fund for each litre of diesel.

The latest adjustment marks the sixth consecutive increase in domestic petrol prices, while diesel has fallen after three previous increases. Fuel prices in Vietnam remain lower than those in several other countries in the region.

On September 30, the government issued Resolution 43, extending exemptions from preferential import tariffs, environmental protection tax and value added tax on fuel until December 31.

Excise tax rates are governed separately by the 2025 Law on Special Consumption Tax, under which E5 petrol is subject to an 8 per cent rate and E10 to 7 per cent.

On international markets, crude oil prices rose on October 8 as concerns grew that supplies from the Middle East could be disrupted.

Brent crude rose by USD 2.28, or 2.28 per cent, to USD 102.28 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate gained USD 1.66, or 1.88 per cent, to USD 89.94 a barrel, Reuters reported.
