On June 17, the Chinese Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) posted on its website said the new rig would be towed from its existing location in the East Sea.

The Nan Hai Jiu Hao, a semi-submersible drilling rig, is 600 metres long and weighs 21,714 tonnes. It moves at four nautical miles per hour, the MSA said.

Speaking with reporters after a National Assembling meeting on the morning of June 20, Tran Van Hang, Chairman of the National Assembly Committee for Foreign Relations, said the close supervision over the second oil rig will help deal with the case of the first, illegally-placed Chinese rig.

Regarding Deputy Truong Trong Nghia’s proposal that the NA should issue a resolution on the East Sea, Chairman Tran Van Hang said that this is not currently necessary. The opening speech of NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and the second announcement of the 13th National Assembly's 7th session has been the strongest of the Vietnamese NA’s stance on the illegal Chinese actions.

Recently, the National Assembly’s Foreign Relations Committee sent a letter to the parliaments of various countries to brief them on the situation in the East Sea.
