SPRCC has resulted in several initiatives concerning adaptation and mitigation measures for climate change, water resource security, and responses to a sea level rise in the most vulnerable areas of the country.
Donors will have pledged over USD1 billion for climate change programmes in Vietnam through SPRCC by the end of 2014.
Several international partners have voiced their high appreciation for the issuance of the National Strategy for Climate Change in 2011 and the National Strategy for Green Growth in 2012.
“After the launch of the SPRCC programme, climate change related challenges in Vietnam have been increasingly centered around political and development agendas,” said an official from the World Bank.
“Vietnam has considerably increased its investment in and attention to adaptation to climate change. Right before this meeting, the government decided to invest VND3 trillion (USD140.71 million) in climate change related programmes,” said Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai.
Hai said that awareness of the challenges of climate changes has been increasing in agencies and among authorities at all levels, and they have amended local planning to take into account climate change forecasts and projections.
He called on donors and partners to continue their strong support for these adaptation programmes and projects.
