There are no alleged “prisoners of conscience” in Vietnam, the Foreign Ministry’s Vice Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang affirmed.

The clarification was made in response to reporters’ questions on October 22 regarding the case of Nguyen Van Hai, considered a “prisoner of conscience” by the US Department of State, who has travelled to the US. 

“The State of Vietnam has decided to temporarily suspend the jail sentence on Nguyen Van Hai and allow him to fly to the US for humanitarian reasons”, she said.
