State President Truong Tan Sang is scheduled to deliver a speech at the 21st APEC Summit in Indonesia on October 7-8, announcing Vietnam will host the 25th APEC Summit in 2017.
The official announcement testifies to the fact that the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum is not only important to Vietnam’s development in economics, foreign relations and security but also an effective channel for the country to boost cooperation and deepen bilateral relations with APEC members, including its strategic and comprehensive partnerships.
Vietnam joined the grouping in 1998 and it has since been a proactive, dynamic and responsible member, helping increase cooperation in economics, trade and other areas.
Vietnam successfully hosted the 14th APEC Summit in 2006, charting a long-term cooperation course for the Pacific Rim in the future.
It has put forward a number of initiatives and undertaken more than 70 initiatives on economics, trade, investment, technology, health care, and counterterrorism among others.
