Vietnamese people of all social strata have been making contributions to support victims in Japan’s earthquake and tsunami for a month.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has sent messages of condolence to the Japanese Embassy in addition to the appeal to people nationwide for donations to Japanese victims.
On May 13, two days after the earthquake in Japan, the Government of Vietnam gave USD200,000 in aid for the victims, along with food, clothes and medicine.
The Government also gave its endorsement of the Red Cross Society of Vietnam’s donation campaign for Japanese victims. As of March 26, the society had received donations worth over VND21 billion (over USD1 million) and sent USD400,000 to its Japanese counterpart.
Recently, the Hanoi’s People’s Committee handed over USD100,000 towards reconstruction in Japan, while the Vietnam Fatherland Front has sent USD1 million so far.
There is also a campaign to send messages of sympathy to Japanese families through the Government, which will last through April 15.
There have been candle lit vigils across the country. Several artists and singers have joined efforts to raise funds. Among them, singer My Tam donated VND100 million (USD4,780).
