Vietnam has recorded 2,155 more Covid-19 infections in the past 12 hours, including 1,519 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City, raising the total number of patients in the country to 60,180, the Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday morning.
According to the ministry's report, 2,154 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 1,519 in Ho Chi Minh City, 156 in Binh Duong, 133 in Tien Giang, 80 in Dong Nai, 43 in Vinh Long, 38 in Khanh Hoa, 34 in Ben Tre, 32 in Danang, 26 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 22 in Can Tho, 12 in Phu Yen, 10 in Hau Giang, eight in Kien Giang, seven in Vinh Phuc, six in Hanoi, six in Binh Phuoc, six in An Giang, six in Dong Thap, two in Dak Lak, two in Quang Ngai, two in Bac Lieu, three in Lam Dong, and one in Quang Nam.
Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Monday, the city also recorded 3,074 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. The city has imposed social distancing measures in 15 days starting from July 9 in an effort to prevent the virus spread.
As of Tuesday morning, 56,530 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 36,347 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 58 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 60,180 including 58,100 locally-transmitted cases.
As of 6 pm on July 19, a total of 11,047 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.
So far there have been 334 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
The country has conducted over 4.30 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 309,791 people having received two doses.
